Guillermo Pérez consultant in Business Intelligence at Bosonit, talks about the advantages of the technology with tools such as Power BI to improve day-to-day business and production processes. This type of tool allows you to convert data into useful information, from the connection with your databases to their visualisation and reports for business decision making.
The Business IntelligenceBusiness intelligence is a set of systems and technologies, in this case from Microsoft, that unifies business analytics solutions into a single application that allows you to visualise data and share information across your organisation, or embed it in your application or website.
It allows different data sources to be brought together, modelled and analysed and then presented through dashboards and reports, which can be consulted in a very easy, attractive and intuitive way.
Power BI is one of the most powerful tools within the so-called Business Intelligence able to produce a rigorous analysis of a cloud-based business.
What does a data visualisation tool like Power BI allow us to do?
Business intelligence systems, or Business Intelligence tools, enable organisations to:
- Transforming your data into knowledge.
- Manage and store useful and quality information.
- Relying on information for decision making.
A Business Intelligence solution refers to the process of turning data into knowledge and knowledge into actions to create competitive advantage for the business".
What value can we bring to our business with Power BI?
Greater control and knowledge of the different processes of the company, which will allow us to make informed decisions and therefore maximise the possibilities of success and improvement in the market.
A success story: Planasa
Planasa is a leading company with a global presence in the agri-food sector specialising in plant research, nurseries and agri-food.
A classic problem faced by Planasa was the control and comparison between monitoring the state of the crop and updating the commercial demand.
There are a number of possible unforeseen events that can affect the yield of a plot of land, environmental incidents, erroneous forecasts, pests. A fundamental part of this process is the sales estimates, which are not static and can change according to different market factors. In order to tackle this specific problem in collaboration with Hiberus a solution was implemented to help them in this process.
An application was developed, both for mobile devices and browsers, in which plantation managers recorded production estimates and incidents.
Once this application recorded all this information, an analytical model was built to exploit it and dashboards were generated. After this implementation, we continued with the development of an application like the previous one, but this time to reflect the situation of commercial demand. As soon as the crop monitoring and commercial demand data were stored, a model was generated that focused on comparing according to the different plant varieties.
This has been a significant change for Planasa, especially in terms of reducing the uncertainty of one of their key processes, and has transformed their process into a much more agile and iterative one. It has allowed them to balance the plantations and provide sales reps with real-time production estimates, significantly improving their sales efficiency.
