Celebrating 8M Women's Day with a reflection on the IT environment

Today, 8 March, on the occasion of the International Women's DayIn Bosonit we support and give visibility to this day under the slogan "togetherreinventingthefuture". This is why we are calling for the very important figure of the female talent of our company.

The achievement of equality depends fundamentally on improving women's capacity to access those areas and positions from which decisions are made. In this sense, women's access to the hard core of scientific and technological practice in education, research, business, software development and the creation of Internet content is essential. Equal access to technologies must therefore be guaranteed, not only as users, but also as generators and creators.

What is the role of women in the IT sector?

The role of women in the technology sector is important and in recent years, their presence has increased, a study of Kaspersky states that 47% of Spanish ICT professionals have seen improved levels of gender equality in their organisation in the last two years, and a further 62% believe that their skills and experience were valued above gender issues during the recruitment process for their first job.

According to the same study, it seems that the pandemic has been one of the reasons for this improved assessment, as 34% of women consider that the rise of teleworking has favoured work-life balance and the improvement of the different roles in their private lives.

The role of women in the IT and STEM world, although increasingly important, still has a lot of work to do.

In Spain, many of the leading technology companies are run by women: VMware, IBM, HP, Microsoft, Google? This dilutes the false belief that women cannot occupy management positions. The reality is that they are qualified and, if given the opportunity, they succeed.

However, the presence of women in middle management positions is significantly lower than that of men. The same is true for the rest of the companies outside the ICT sector.

The Information Society and ICTs offer new opportunities for advancing equal opportunities between men and women, as well as for reducing gender discrimination and increasing women's autonomy.
